Ten Years and Still Going Strong

It was our anniversary last Wednesday and I have to tell you - it has been the best 10 years of my life!!!!!!!! We went to our timeshare in Midway for a getaway from lessons, work, kids, and whatever else takes you away from each other. The timeshare sits right on the second tee of one of the golf courses in Midway and is neighbors to Zermatt resort. There are hot pots around the area and the Homestead Resort is just down the road.
We had dinner at one of our favorite Mexican restaurants (Don Pedro's) in Heber then drove up Daniel's Canyon to Strawberry reservoir just to enjoy the scenery. On our way back to Midway, we drove thru Lodgepole Campground and decided that we need to go camping there soon. We attempted to watch a video when we got back and had to have maintenance come and show us how to get the TV to work with the DVD player - I guess we are technically challenged!

The next morning, prior to heading to Park City to wander the factory stores, we exchanged presents. My wonderful BH gave me a new DVD player - our old one would stop working toward the end of any moview. We had tried to clean the heads on it but that didn't help and I had mentioned that we ought to buy us a new one. (A little sidebar to the story - we were even able to hook the new DVD player up when we got home without having to call any of the kids to talk us thru how to do it!!!!!) I was real happy with my present!!!!!

The BH was real nervous about her present because her DD already knew what I was giving her and had called her several times wanting to know if she had gotten it yet and that she was to call her as soon as she did get it. Well, most of you who know me, know that I like to wrap presents and sometimes I go overboard when I wrap things. Well, I went overboard with her present. I wrapped the box, put it inside a bigger box and wrapped that and then put that in an even bigger box.

When it was all said and done, she had a new diamond ring to wear. We have had matching rings that we got in Mexico and she had a ring that I gave her when we got married but it was gold (she doesn't like gold and I didn't know that) and it wasn't a real diamond.

Well, this is real and the bands around it have 10 diamond chips on them, one for each year that we have been married.

We had a great day together and we stopped on our way home and had some Greek food at a place we like in Salt Lake.

I Love You Babe and here's to the next 10 years together!!!!!!!

Why She is My "BH"

Since I started posting to our blog, I have been referring to my wife as my "BH." Today seems like an appropriate time to explain what I mean when I call her that. In a previous blog, I gave a little history about us both. I have 2 ex's and after the last divorce, I swore that I would never get married again - you know sort of like the saying "3 strikes and you are out." Well, when I met my BH, the saying changed to "3rd time is the charm."

BH Stands for Better Half

and I'm pretty sure most of you already figured that out but here are just a few of the reasons my wife truly is MY BH.

1. She has a great calming effect on me.
2. She is my greatest supporter.
3. She puts up with my "mantrums."
4. She is my best friend.
5. She isn't falling apart like I am.
6. She is a lot better wife than I am a husband.
7. She likes to "spoon."
8. She has immeasurable patience. (She needs it to be around me)

The list could go on forever but let's concentrate on her not falling apart like me. I am wearing out and I can prove it. I need hearing aids to hear, glasses to see and pills to get me going in the morning and keep me going thru the day. I have a bad knee, a bad ankle and a bad shoulder. My cholesterol was way high till I started taking Vytorin and Fish Oil Omega 3. I take a prostate health pill, calcium pills for the bones and I need Ibuprofen for the bad joints (especially the shoulder). Each morning, I take a handful of pills. Luckily, I don't have a problem taking pills or I would be standing at the sink for a long time taking them. I can get them all down in one swallow. As long as I don't jog, the ankle and knee are pretty good, but make me jog, and I am limping for the rest of the day. This from a guy who has run 14 marathons and countless half marathons, 10Ks and 5Ks. All the jogging probably didn't help the ankle or knee either.

The bad shoulder is the result of I don't know what, but when I had it repaired several years ago, the Dr. wishes that I would have had a cat scan and MRI prior to the surgery so he would of had pictures to show people and his students what a "bad" shoulder is like. He told us after the surgery that it was the worst shoulder he had worked on in a long time. He found 2 of the 4 tendons that make up your shoulder girdle detached, and the ends were several inches down my arm. My shoulder is functional but I don't push it too hard - I don't want to have to have it worked on again! I can still pass the fire department physical and do the required push-ups, even with a sore bad shoulder.

I will be the first one to tell you that I am over the hill ,coasting down the other side, and my BH is still a spring chicken. I am like the Timex commercials from years ago where John Cameron Swayze says that they take a beating and keep on ticking. I've taken a beating but keep on ticking.
OK, every guy out there will probably agree with me that their wife is their BH.

To my BH: thanks for putting up with me and I Love You.
